TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. 鈥 A resident of the hamlet of Ruby was struck by an ambulance as he attempted to direct first responders at the scene of a one-car personal injury crash, town police said

On Sunday, Feb. 2, at about 8:40 a.m., the Town of Ulster police responded to a 911 call in the area of 1270 Main St. in the hamlet after a report of a one-car personal injury crash, police said in a press release.

Angela Parker, 55, of the town of Ulster, complained of back pain after the one-car crash. Parker was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital for treatment, Police Chief Kyle Berardi said in an email.

While officers were tending to Parker, Charles Servo Jr., 72, a nearby resident, attempted to direct the responding ambulance closer to the scene.

The Empress Ambulance began to slide on the ice and, although Servo attempted to get out of its way, he slipped on icy pavement and was struck by the ambulance, according to a press release.

EMS personnel from Empress rendered first aid to Servo and a LifeNet helicopter was called and took him to Albany Medical Center, where he is currently being treated for his injuries, police said.

A short while later, Servo鈥檚 50-year-old son, Charles Servo III, ran to the scene and began threatening police officers and medical personnel who were treating his father, police said. Servo III was 鈥渁dvised multiple times to refrain from his tumultuous and threatening behavior鈥 but, 鈥渃ontinued to cause a disturbance, preventing first responders from conducting their investigation,鈥 according to the press release.

Servo III was arrested and charged with the misdemeanor of obstruction of governmental administration and the violation of harassment. He was released with tickets for Ulster Town Court. Police said that while no other charges against Servo III were filed, the investigation is ongoing.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, state police, Saugerties police, the Ruby Fire Department, and Empress Ambulance Services.
