ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man in Minnesota is dead after police say he crashed his car causing fireworks in the vehicle to explode.

Just after 9 p.m. on July 7, officers were called to a car crash in St. Paul. A man driving a Nissan Maxima struck a tree and light pole before the car came to a stop, St. Paul police told McClatchy News.

The car then caught on fire.

Inside the vehicle were fireworks that then began to explode, police said. This made it hard for anyone to help the driver.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle, police said. His name and cause of death have not been released.

The crash is still under investigation, but police believe excessive speed may be a factor in the accident.
